"I Thought My Personality Would Carry Me Further" – An Interview with America's Next Top Model 7's Megg

by Phil Kural -- 10/16/2006
Megg, the resident “rock chick,” was the fourth girl eliminated this season on America’s Next Top Model. Find out right here what Megg had to say about her time on the show, her thoughts on the Monique and Melrose drama, and so much more!

I’d be lying if I said that Megg didn’t totally annoy me on the show. If I heard her yell or scream “rock and roll” one more time I was going to throw a shoe at my TV! That being said, Megg was probably one of the most fun interviews I’ve ever done. She was fun, honest, and to the point. I wish now we had seen more of her on the show, rather than just her being crazy! Read on to see what Megg had to say about her experience.

RealityNewOnline: Hey, Megg! Thanks for taking time to talk with me today? Did you watch previous seasons of the show and what factored into your decision to apply?

Megg: I barely saw the show before, but friends and family of mine kept telling me that I should apply for the show. It never really crossed my mind again, but I was discovered on MySpace by someone that works for the show. They convinced me to try out for the show and I made it all the way to the house! It was crazy!

RNO: How many times a day do you say “Rock and Roll”?

Megg: Ha! I say it a lot, actually. It’s my thing, it’s what I say! It keeps me upbeat, and whenever I would start to feel down in the house, I would just yell out: “Rock and Roll!” It just kept me happy to be there.

RNO: What did you think of J. Alexander’s impersonation of you?

Megg: I thought it was so cool… he nailed it!

RNO: Do you feel that your best photo from the “Bearded Lady” photo shoot was chosen?

Megg: You know, I’m not really sure. I’d like to say yes, since I would hope that they really do pick the best pictures for each of us during the photo shoots, but it was very bland. Maybe not… I really don’t know.

RNO: Most of the first three episodes focused on the attitude of Monique, but now that she’s gone, it’s focusing on the attitude of Melrose. Was Melrose just as bad as Monique the whole time?

Megg: Well, the thing was, Melrose antagonized Monique most of the time, so when they were together, it was terrible. They were very different though. Monique was totally crazy. We were actually scared of her! Melrose was just a know-it-all. She was more annoying than crazy.

RNO: Do you feel that Anchal is playing up her insecurities for the camera, or did you feel that she was being genuine about her past experiences?

Megg: I really do think it was genuine. It’s rough when you are told something your whole life, especially when you are a kid, that when you grow out of it, it’s hard to believe when people pay you some compliments. I think Anchal really was upset by the things that people said.

RNO: Before this photo shoot, it never seemed as if you were in terrible danger of being sent home. Did you have any idea over the past few eliminations that you might have been on thin ice?

Megg: No, not at all! I know that I had some eye and mouth problems in some of my photos, but you never really know where you stand with the judges. I knew that I wasn’t the worst most of the time, but I didn’t think I was the best either. I thought that my personality would carry me further. I’d say I always felt like I was in the middle of the pack.

RNO: When it was you and Jaeda in front of Tyra, did you feel that you would be the one sent home? After all, Jaeda received just as much criticism that you did.

Megg: I had a good feeling that I was going to be sent home. I wasn’t working well with the whole reality TV aspect of the show. It was so draining. I think all the stress that was put on us, plus you are always just trying and trying to take a good picture. The pressure really mounts, and I think the judges saw that from a reality TV aspect, I wasn’t cutting it.

RNO: You said you were playing it pretty safe during the posing challenge. Was that your strategy for the competition? Play it safe until a specific moment?

Megg: I think that was the only time I really played it safe. Not to make excuses, but my stool was actually wobbling a little, and the last thing that I wanted was to fall on the floor right on my a**. That would not have been good. Any other time though, I went all out, or at least tried to!

RNO: What did you feel would be your biggest asset in the competition and how did you plan on standing out from the rest of the girls?

Megg: That would definitely be my personality. I’m not fake. I’m real, honest, and I never lied to anyone. I thought that I had some pretty strong facial features too, so I thought that might help me as well, but I was banking on my personality to get me far in the competition, and help me mix well with the other girls.

RNO: Was it apparent, or did you realize how much Tyra was in your corner while you were in front of the panel? You seemed to be one of her favorites.

Megg: Yes, I had a good feeling that they liked me. For real though, you have to have the personality because a model’s personality shows through in her pictures. I feel that if I wasn’t so off-the-wall, then maybe I would have never even made it into the house!

RNO: You had mentioned that you want to start a band. Is that your focus now, or is modeling still something you are going to try and pursue?

Megg: Yes, I do want to start a band, but jamming with my friends is second right now. It’s all about modeling, but I don’t want to feel like I’m limited to only one thing right now. I think that would be unfair. Maybe I’ll do both.

RNO: Do you feel that you were given enough direction during the photo shoot, or were you mostly just expected what to do and how to pose, even with such little experience?

Megg: I like to think that I actually work better when I’m self-directed. Look at the nude photo shoot that we did. I rocked it. It’s just easier when I have my own ideas and I try to pull off a few new things, rather than being told what to do, and wasting frames if I’m not able to pull it off, you know?

RNO: So what are your plans for the immediate future? Do you have a good idea what you want to do immediately following the show?

Megg: Modeling, modeling, modeling! I just have to get my face out there and make sure that people know who I am. New York, here I come!

RNO: Is there anything you would like to add or say to fans of the show?

Megg: Hey everyone – rock and roll! I love you all and thanks for the support!

RNO: Thanks, Megg!
