Dancing with the Stars 4, May 1: Cheers!by Jill Jones -- 05/02/2007
Before we begin, I want to thank Pikachu for pointing out an error I made. I stated that Laila and Maksim scored the first triple goober of the season, but I was wrong – Julianne and Apolo did that back on April 16. I, of course, blame my mistake on the fact that April 16 is my birthday and I was, well, celebrating! Also, I missed several songs last night (due to Maksim’s chest and other distractions). Thanks to Margy, I can now fill you in on what those ditties were:
Tom and Samantha open the show with a recap of last evening’s dancing. Tom says that tonight’s elimination might be the most shocking one yet. He and Samantha also review the current standings; I’m throwing mine in again in case you were curious.
Len explains that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Laila and Maksim to dance the encore performance. Apparently, they flipped a coin to decide. Thank you, whoever flipped the coin, for giving us another chance to see these two do their samba and shake it. Tom makes a vegan comment in reference to Heather and then introduces Meat Loaf, who sings “Bat out of Hell.” Some of the professional dancers perform as well. Included in the mix is MY Louis! The overall performance is a bit confusing and disturbing, but I like it. Samantha speaks with Ian and Joey backstage. OK, this is when you should get up and get a snack because Samantha certainly doesn’t ask any hard-hitting questions. The only good thing that comes from the conversation is that Ian tells Joey that he was the driving force behind ’N Sync, not Justin Timberlake. Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice are back. They do a sports-like analysis of the dancers with Len. It’s quite annoying, but great to see Jerry again. Some of the highlights include:
Tom and Samantha are ready to reveal the first couple that is safe. It is Laila and Maksim. Unfortunately, they also announce a couple that is in the bottom two. It’s Edyta and John. People boo. Next, Tom and Samantha welcome a group of youngster who are ballroom dance champions. I am so impressed by the dancers’ moves and the way they carry themselves. They are so crisp and polished. Great job! Samantha now speaks with the stars who have not yet learned their fate. Of course, she cuts them off as they’re trying to answer her questions. I wish someone would cut her off. Yeah! Kenny, Jerry, and Len return with more commentary. Again, I’ll give you the highlights. This should be quick.
Meat Loaf returns to sing “Cry Over Me” while Jonathan Wilkens and Katusha Demidova dance. The song is hauntingly beautiful and the dancing matches. I never knew that I could enjoy Meatloaf this much. Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo teach us the cha cha cha. They also talk about their sexy dreams, and reveal that they sleep in the same bed as Tom. Don’t ask. Please, I beg of you. Let’s just move on. Tom and Samantha reveal that Julianne and Apolo are moving on in the competition. A lot of people are breathing easier now. The audience now tells us who should move on. Of course, everyone gets a vote of confidence. Tom and Samantha reveal another safe couple. It’s Cheryl and Ian. Unfortunately for their fans, Karina and Billy Ray are in the bottom two. That means that Kym and Joey are returning next week. After a very tense break, Tom tells us that the next couple eliminated from the competition is Edyta and John. Awwwwww! They are so sweet together and will be missed. Samantha thanks Edyta for being on the show for four seasons, and putting so much time into it. John thanks Edyta for her help and friendship. The couple ends the show by leading everyone in the bunny hop. Fun. It took 3600 seconds, but Edyta and John have been eliminated. Are you surprised that Karina and Billy Ray survived another week? Drop me a line and let me know what you think. We have more than enough time to discuss it before next week’s show. Jill is an east coast mama who loves sharks, zombie movies, and reality television.
