Dancing with the Stars 5, October 9: Oh What a Relief It Isby Jill Jones -- 10/10/2007
Before we begin, I want to apologize for some of my cold-induced comments. First, I said that I like to snap with my snap. What does that even mean? What I meant to say is that I like to snap with my toes. Also, I predicted that Kym & Mark would be eliminated tonight and stated that I would keep making this prediction until it came true. Technically, it won’t happen if Kym & Mark win the whole darn thing. I doubt that they will, but stranger things have happened. Whew. Thanks for bearing with me during what I am referring to as the worst head cold of my life. Tom and Drew welcome us to the show. Drew breaks some bad news to us: Samantha is returning to the show next week. Sigh. I’ve really enjoyed Drew’s time on Dancing with the Stars. Next, Tom and Drew review the performances from Monday evening. If you missed the program or don’t want to listen to our hosts, read my recap instead. Len tells us that this season is the best so far. Also, he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Jennie & Derek to perform the encore dance. They re-tango and re-impress me with their moves. Next, Tom and Drew go over the standings after the judges rated the performances:
Tom and Drew reveal the first two couples that are safe. Jane & Tony and Jennie & Derek receive the good news. Seal sings “Kiss from a Rose” while Eddie Stutts & Valentina Kostenko perform. For some reason, Valentina simply goes by Valentina. Interesting. Also, I normally like Seal, but I can’t say I’m enjoying the live performance of this song. Speaking of things I don’t like, it’s time for the audience to share its thoughts with us. One woman refers to Cameron as a god while another says that Wayne is hot. Hey, there’s Monique Coleman from season three of Dancing with the Stars! At least she’s not speaking “crazy.” Tom and Drew reveal two more safe couples. They are Marie & Jonathan, and Mel & Maksim. Drew talks to some of the stars and dancers backstage. Jennie thanks her family for supporting her; Helio explains that sometimes you have to move backward in order to move forward; Derek and Julianne talk about sibling rivalry. Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus now sing “Ready, Set, Don’t Go.” Karina, Billy Ray’s dance partner from season four, and Maksim dance. It is obvious that Billy Ray is more comfortable singing than dancing; the song and the dance are great. Seal returns and sings “Amazing.” Scary women in suits accompany him. Other than being frightened by the dancers, I like this song. Tom and Drew use “Amazing” to move into a clip about Harold Wheeler and the house band. The stars talk about how different it is to dance to the band’s music than it is to practice with a CD. When the segment ends, the audience gives Harold and the band a standing ovation. Harold can’t enjoy it though because he’s cuing up the band for the next segment of music. A conductor’s job is never done. Tom plugs Drew, Bruno, and Carrie Ann’s new show called Dance Wars. Check it out on ABC this winter. (That’s all the free work I’m doing for the network.) Clips of the stars backstage during the performance show are shown. As you can imagine, the looks on the faces are crazy. There are also clips of people during their performances. The point of view is from “dancer cam” and is a little frightening… like the women from Seal’s performance. Tom and Drew tell us who else is advancing in the competition. Sabrina & Mark and Edyta & Cameron are safe. Drew points out that one of the male celebrities will be eliminated. With only minutes left to go, Tom and Drew reveal that Julianne & Helio and Kym & Mark are safe. This means that Karina & Floyd and Cheryl & Wayne are in the bottom two. (Gee, I was wrong again with my prediction.) The judges tell both stars they are great, but unfortunately, one of them has to go. Tom says that the couple that has been eliminated is Cheryl & Wayne. Nobody in the galaxy is surprised. Cheryl looks happier tonight than she has since the season started. That’s all for Cheryl and Wayne. Join me next week as the remaining couples move one step closer to obtaining the infamous disco ball trophy. And for all things related to reality television, be sure to read RNO.
