Dancing with the Stars 6: A Preview

by Jill Jones -- 02/20/2008
The cast for Dancing with the Stars has been announced. Who’s in and who’s out? Who grunts and who sizzles – and who makes things disappear? Read on as Jill Jones answers these and other questions.

March is approaching… that means it’s also time for Dancing with the Stars! Let’s take a look at this season’s batch of celebrities and their professional dance partners.

First up is TV and radio personality Adam Carolla. Adam, who at one time co-hosted The Man Show, will now try to win over a different type of audience. He’ll do so with the help of his professional dance partner Julianne Hough. This is Julianne’s third time on the show and she’s going for her third win.

Next is Cristián de la Fuente. The Chilean actor was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful” people and is paired with the equally beautiful Cheryl Burke. Like Julianne, Cheryl is also looking for win number three.

Our next celebrity is Miss American Pie Shannon Elizabeth. Shannon, an accomplished poker player, is now bringing her game face to the ballroom. She is dancing with Derek Hough, who made a dancer out of Jennie Garth last season.

Steve Guttenberg is the next celebrity to take to the dance floor. The star of various movies, including Three Men and a Baby and Police Academy, will now take on the role of ballroom dancer. He is joined by professional Anna Trebunskaya. I love Anna, but I’m not feeling this match-up.

The next star is Mario. Yup, that’s it, just Mario. The R&B/pop singer and actor is set to dance with Karina. OK, it’s really Karina Smirnoff – I just didn’t want Mario to feel left out. Also, Karina has worked magic with partners named Mario in the past. Perhaps this season will be no exception.

Up next, we have Marlee Matlin. Yes, Marlee is deaf. Let’s just get that out of the way and focus on other aspects of her being. She is an Oscar winner who is certainly challenging herself by joining the 2006 world mambo champion Fabian Sanchez in the ballroom.

Now you see him, now you don’t. It’s Penn Jillette! The illusionist has left his partner Teller behind momentarily to perform with Kym Johnson. I just hope he remembers that this isn’t The Aristocrats.

Priscilla Presley, former wife of Elvis Presley and former mother-in-law of Michael Jackson, can now add Dancing with the Stars celebrity to her list of, umm, accomplishments. The actress and producer is paired with MY Louis van Amstel. I’m so happy Louis is back!

Monica Seles, known for her grunts on the tennis court, will now find out if she’ll be famous for her dancing skills. Monica, who turned pro at the age of fourteen, is dancing with Jonathan Roberts. As long as he doesn’t pretend she’s an overgrown doll, I’ll be OK with this team.

Yum! Our next celebrity is Jason Taylor, the NFL’s Man of the Year. He’s also known as something fine to watch on the dance floor! Personally, I can’t wait to see how he shakes it. Oh, and he’s paired up with Edyta Sliwinska. That makes for one smoking hot couple.

Up next is Marissa Jaret Winokur. I admit to not knowing who this is, but I will give her the props that she has coming to her. She has won several awards including a Tony, and is busy working in movies and television. Her partner for the season is also a Tony – Dovolani, that is.

Our final celebrity is Kristi Yamaguchi. Kristi, who is still as cute as a button, is an Olympic gold medal winner. The girl obviously has talent and athleticism; it’s now up to her partner Mark Ballas to see if her skills on the ice translate over to the ballroom.

You may have noticed that my super secretive boyfriend Maksim Chmerkovskiy isn’t dancing this season. Don’t worry, he promises to come back again one day. Sigh.

Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris return as hosts, while judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba are back to critique the performances. Hey, four out of five aren’t bad!

Last, but not least, Yoko and I will act as your happy recappers once again. Technically, I’ll do all of the recapping, but she’ll be sitting next to me looking cute.

Mark your calendars; six of the couples dance on opening night, Monday, March 17, at 8:00 PM ET, while the remaining six dance on Tuesday. All of the couples dance the following Monday and two, count them two, couples will be eliminated the next night.

Until then, practice your Bruno fist pumps and prepare for a lot of goobers!

Jill is an east coast mama who loves Michael Kors, Bea Arthur, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. She’s sad none of these individuals are on the show, but will distract herself by watching Louis. She can be reached at jillcjones@zoominternet.netto discuss any topic her readers choose.
