The Apprentice 3, Episode 15 Extras: Another One Bites the Dustby Jenn Brasler -- 05/09/2005
Kendra and Craig are waiting to see who will return from the boardroom. There’s nothing new here - sorry! Basically Craig thinks he and Tana rock. Tana comes back. The three head out to their interviews. Kendra says that today is a make it or break it day. Craig says that these interviews are the most important of his life. Tana says that they can’t prepare, they just have to go in and be who they are. There isn’t a lot of additional footage during the interviews, but we do get to hear Tana talk a little more about her mother as an entrepreneur - Tana says that she wanted to be able to support the family in case something happened to Tana’s father. Craig stumbles over his answers, and ordinarily I’d make fun of him, but I had a job interview last week in which the interviewer asked me what my last company did and I couldn’t actually remember. I’m actually sympathizing with Craig for the first time ever. Someone take me to a doctor! Of course, the difference here is that I got the job and Craig is about to be fired. Oh, sorry, did I jump the gun? Kendra is tough in her interviews. When Greg talks about Craig’s numerous jobs, Craig jokes that it’s a good thing he doesn’t have the complete list. Ooh, bad move. I’m done sympathizing with him. Tana is asked how her skills from her current jobs will help her in Trump’s organization. She thinks that she has the skills to negotiate, and she’ll just have to learn the right lingo to negotiate in Trump’s business world. Kendra talks to Darlene about bending the rules, saying that at the end of the day, it’s about putting more money into your business and creating more jobs. Darlene isn’t sure about that. Split screen mania! The execs gather in the boardroom with Trump, Carolyn, and George. To sum up: David says yea to Tana, okay to Kendra, and nay to Craig. He thinks that Tana is a capable leader, and he likes that Kendra and Craig both said that they would like to work with her. Apparently, everyone likes Tana, including Carolyn and Trump. Upstairs, everyone is packing. Darlene says yea to Tana, nay to Craig, and isn’t sure about Kendra. She mentions that she asked Kendra about bending the rules and Kendra implied that it’s okay. Darlene was actually looking for a distinction between rules and guidelines. Howard says yea to Kendra; his only drawback is that she’s young. He says nay to Craig (are you sensing a pattern here?), since he seemed to want to change the organization. Tana is okay, but he doesn’t think that she would do well in the city. Howard repeats that his only concerns about Kendra have to do with her age, so obviously that’s temporary. Greg says nay to Craig, since he has no substance. He says that he presented Craig with an ethical dilemma about someone stealing from a company. Greg was obviously looking for him to say that stealing isn’t right under any circumstances, but Craig didn’t give a concrete answer. Wow, that’s bad. He doesn’t think that Craig has much leadership potential. Greg thinks that Kendra is good, and she especially plays the game well. He asked her who she would want to go with if she had to hop on a cross-Atlantic flight tonight. Kendra picked Craig, because she thinks she could learn the most from him. However, Greg isn’t sure if Kendra just said that because she sees Tana as a threat. He’s not sure about Tana being a leader in Trump’s organization, but he liked her and thinks that she would be a good team player. I think that Craig, Kendra, and Tana approached the interviews in very different ways. Craig seemed to give the answers he thought the execs wanted to hear. Kendra seemed to give the opposite of the answers she thought most people would give. (I mean, wouldn’t you expect her to say that she’d want to fly with Tana, because they get along?) Tana fell somewhere in the middle, mostly answering honestly and from her heart. Let that be a lesson - don’t interview like Craig! When this episode first aired, it looked like Trump sent the execs away, brought the candidates in, and fired Craig without much preamble. Thanks to the extras, we now know that that’s not true. There’s a lot of stuff in here that didn’t air. We start with Trump asking the execs if they noticed any personal issues the candidates have with each other. David says that Kendra and Craig don’t get along; each said that he or she would fire the other if given the opportunity. Apparently this is part of why David changed his attitude towards Kendra. He thinks that their fighting is childish. Darlene mentions that Tana and Craig are friends, so Kendra is sort of an outsider. However, Kendra told her that Craig has been condescending. Trump says that others have said that, too. (I’m guessing he’s thinking of Audrey.) George and Carolyn thank the execs for their help, saying that they were very perceptive. The execs leave and Trump says that he thought they were terrific. Carolyn agrees - they gave good information and answered some of the questions she had. She points out that they all agreed about Craig. George says that the execs were helpful and definitely solidified what the three of them had already come up with. Kendra, Tana, and Craig enter the boardroom. Trump immediately asks Kendra if she and Craig have problems. Kendra says that they do, but only on the business side, not the personal side. She can like and respect someone as a person but not in business. Trump asks if they get along and Kendra says that they don’t usually on a business level. She thinks it’s a shame, since Craig is intelligent and has good ideas. Trump tells Craig that Kendra isn’t the first person to say this about him. Craig says that he’s heard rumors to that effect. He doesn’t want to treat Kendra as a child, but that’s how she receives what he says to her. Hmmm… how should she receive being called “young lady”? Trump asks for Kendra’s response, and she says that Craig tells people how and what to think. Throughout this whole portion, Craig is making faces like he doesn’t believe what she’s saying and thinks she’s crazy. He’s done that before, and it always makes me want to hurt him. Kendra says that she has no problems with Tana or anyone else - she’s disagreed with people’s decisions but still supports them. However, Craig likes to lecture. Craig says that he’s never lectured Kendra or told her what to do. I cry foul on that. He mentions that she’s demonstrating what he said about how she receives things. Trump asks Kendra why he should pick her over Craig. Kendra replies that she and Trump both love real estate, and she’s used her marketing to leverage that. She also says that she’s a born leader. Interestingly, Trump doesn’t ask Craig why he should stay over Kendra. He asks Tana if he should fire Kendra or Craig. Tana thinks he should fire Kendra, since Craig has a good work ethic. Carolyn thinks that Tana chose Craig for personal reasons, but Tana says she didn’t. She says that Craig might be better because he’s “seasoned.” Trump asks Craig what he thought of the executives. Craig liked them, but Trump says that they didn’t like him, so Craig is fired. He leaves and Trump congratulates Kendra and Tana. In the cab, Craig says that he was criticized for not getting deep. He thinks that this is all for the good and he’s a better man now. He thanks Trump and says that he’s looking forward to getting back to his family. Kendra has issues, and he doesn’t think she’s good at business. He says that she’s still “a little girl” in some areas, but she’ll improve. He thinks that he and Tana carried their teams. Um, okay. It was great to get this far, and he’s proud of himself, especially for being so consistent. This has been a great journey. ‘Bye, Craig, and don’t call me. The next morning, Kendra and Tana leave for their task, pausing to hug each other outside the building. I’m having flashbacks to Bill and Kwame. I’m so glad these two made it, because they obviously respect each other and won’t have a Kelly/Jen-type rivalry. Tana says that she has a lot of responsibility and is playing a major role in trying to bring the Olympics to New York. Kendra says that she didn’t put her life on hold to lose. The past fifteen weeks are coming together, and it’s time to show who’s better. Tana, Chris, Kristen, and Brian meet up at Chelsea Piers. I don’t really like any of the returning candidates, but I have to admit that they’ll definitely make things interesting. Tana isn’t happy about her team. She’s in charge of both the sports competition and a VIP reception. Ahh, the VIP reception, a grand tradition in Apprentice history. That should be excellent. Tana says that she has to keep everyone happy. Well, the sponsors and everyone - not her team. Kendra tells Erin, Michael, and Danny that she’s going to delegate to them a lot, since there’s so much to get done. Erin explains that she’s in charge of inventory and supply chain. Where’s Stephanie when there’s actually something she could be good at? Michael is in charge of the VIP party - probably not a good move on Kendra’s part, but that should make for some good entertainment for us. Danny is in charge of making connections with sponsors. One sponsor, David, brings up the idea of giving someone an opportunity to have his or her face in the sequel to the game they’re playing at the championship. Danny says that David was his kindred spirit. Another Danny? Please, say it isn’t so. Danny suggests having someone pay to have his or her face in the game, with the proceeds going to charity. David loves this idea. Danny says that he wants to go above and beyond. Kendra interviews that Danny was fired because of poor marketing strategies, but now he’s doing great. Tana asks Brian to get her lunch. Brian thinks this is a strange responsibility to have, but he says he’ll do it. Carolyn says that Tana obviously doesn’t like her team, and thinks Brian and Chris are useless. Honestly, on this task, I think that Chris might actually be helpful. He probably won’t be as intense, since he has nothing to lose. Brian, however… yeah. Carolyn thinks it’s hard to believe that Tana thinks they’re useless - Brian and Chris are both self-made millionaires, so they can’t be complete idiots. Excuse me for a minute. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Okay, I’m back. Chris says that he doesn’t get what’s happening; Tana tells him that Brian has a timeline. Oh, this is going to be great. Next week: two women enter.
