American Idol 4, May 11 - It’s Like Rain On Your Wedding Dayby Sting7 -- 05/12/2005
Ryan welcomes us. Intro the final four, and a recap of last night’s show. Now the final four continue with the country theme with "Islands In The Stream." That rhymed. Not my favorite song, nor my favorite performance. Hey, there’s A Martinez! I remember when he was on Santa Barbara (oh, shuddup, we all watched soap operas in high school!). Is A (yes, that’s his name, correctoids) on a Fox show or something? Maybe he’s just a fan. Who can blame him? We get this week’s Ford commercial, to the tune of Elastica’s "Ready To Go." And, as a special feature, we get to witness each of the final four’s original audition. Randy says Vonzell didn’t always believe in herself, but she has grown. (There has been a lot of speculating about what was wrong with Vonzell last night. I’ve everything from plain homesickness to a father diagnosed with cancer, but I don’t know for sure...) Paula says original comparisons between Clay Aiken and Anthony are fruitless. Anthony has established his own personality. I agree. Simon said he was surprised Carrie was undiscovered, and he then said he predicted she could win. He does fall short of standing next to that prediction, however. Then, for the first time, we see Bo’s original audition. Bo did "Whipping Post" and says, when asked why he thinks he deserves to be the next American Idol, Bo says the Idol needs a "kick of some rock, blues, soul." The judges nod enthusiastically. He said there hasn’t been an Idol with a rock vibe. Simon offers John Stevens. Ha! Simon said Bo was individual, nice voice, he liked him from the start. Ryan says that three of them will be sent home via Marquis Jet. One will be going home. Coach. Last night, I predicted Carrie would be going home. A lot of you were shocked. Now for the results: Bo is safe. Carrie is safe. Anthony and Vonzell remain. Ryan reads their critiques. And, it is Anthony who is leaving tonight. How ironic is that? Anthony, to a lot of us, was the best singer of the night. Anthony’s funeral video. Then he has to sing his way out. He flubs the intro, and sings "If You Don’t Know Me By Now," and Carrie Underwood is crushed. I’m talking she is crying – makeup running, snotty, blotchy crying! Some will say Anthony kicked her ass on that song and she knows she should be going. I think Carrie sensed danger and may feel a little guilt that Anthony is leaving after his best ever night. But, more than anything else, I think they got tight. I’m bummed to see Anthony go. Nothing will stop Bo Bice from winning now. That is my official prediction. Bo is your next American Idol.
