American Idol 4, May 18 - Three Into Two

by Sting7 -- 05/19/2005
The three remaining contestants are about to become two. Bo Bice definitely made a statement last night about why he should be the American Idol. Carrie and Vonzell have a lot of work to do – but, they have to make it past tonight. Did America endorse Bo’s big gamble? Will Vonzell, the perceived number three, be able to edge past Carrie to make it to the finals? The answers are here!

It’s down to three. Burgeoning rock uber-God Bo Bice, beautiful country chanteuse Carrie Underwood, and the ever-surprising diva Vonzell Solomon.

Ryan welcomes us. Intro the judges, and a surprise. Everyone in the studio audience got to see Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith or something. Not a Starhead. Carrie says she enjoyed it, doing a bad Yoda impersonation.

Then we get clips of Vonzell’s trip home. Vonzell is enthusiastically greeted everywhere she goes. Including a SEA of people in Centennial Park in Fort Myers, FL. Vonzell then sings "Chain of Fools" once again.

Time for the Ford Commercial, this time to Blondie’s "One Way Or Another." Definitely an upgrade on the commercials this season. No more JPL’s in banana suits.

We see clips of Bo’s return to Alabama. Ricky Medlock and Ian Evans from Lynyrd Skynyrd are there to surprise him. Bo visits a Wal-Mart (as did Vonzell, I smell a corporate sponsor), gets the key to the city of Helena, and Bo is overcome. Then comes a parade, and Bo sings before 8,000 people before he is joined again by Medlock and Evans. Then Bo sings "In a Dream" (I think we called it “Within a Dream” yesterday) again, and if it’s possible, it was better than last night!

I swear, he has won this thing already.

Now, we get footage of Carrie’s trip home to Oklahoma. She sings for a huge crowd, then a trip to her high school. I’m sure another Wal-Mart visit was in there, and Carrie finally gets to go home. Her home. Then she flies back to Idol. There is business to attend to. Carrie sings "Crying." She too does an even better job than last night.

The show has almost no time left. Quickly, all three get their critiques. And... Vonzell is eliminated tonight.

Vonzell had a mountain to climb to get past Carrie, and I think she came close. We see Vonzell’s funeral video and the hardest working contestant on Idol is no more.

Next week, finale time. Already! What a season this has been! Let’s bring it to close next week.
