Dancing with the Stars – Follow Up Report

What a busy week it has been for Dancing with the Stars… even though the show concluded several weeks ago!

Usatoday.com is reporting that when the show returns next season, a new weekly results episode will be included. This is in response to viewers’ frustration and confusion over the original voting format. Instead of combining viewers’ votes from one week with the judges’ votes from another, scores from the same week will be combined.

TV Guide online is running a story that says there has been talk of adding Dancing with the Stars champion Kelly Monaco to the cast of Desperate Housewives. The show’s creator Marc Cherry says that when a reporter from Access Hollywood asked about it, he may have given an answer that was misleading. While he doesn’t have any immediate plans on giving the dancing queen an address on the infamous Wisteria Lane, he wouldn’t rule it out completely.

Also, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Kelly spent most of her time answering questions about alleged favoritism from the program’s network, ABC, and how it helped her win the competition. The judges, who were on hand along with Alec Mazo, her partner on the show, came to her defense and said she won because she gave the better performance on the final evening of the competition.

Kelly, always the feisty competitor, said that she would compete in a dance-off to settle the issue once and for all. After dissing Trista Sutter and mentioning her affiliation with ABC, Kelly simple stated that she was not going to be bothered by the negativity, but rather enjoy her victory.

While I didn’t agree 100% with Kelly’s win over John O’Hurley, I do respect her effort and the fact that she was crowned the champion. Also, she isn’t alone in her connection to ABC; like Kelly, John has appeared on General Hospital. True, that was several years ago, but you can’t use this argument and nothing more to claim complete bias in her win.

Whoa! It’s been a while since I got really worked up over Dancing with the Stars! I think I’ll take a minute to calm down, ponder who the next group of stars will be, and look forward to the show’s return.
